Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman from AHL Cleveland

The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Gabriel Carlsson from the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Carlsson, 23, has collected three assists and eight penalty minutes in 23 career NHL games with Columbus, including two penalty minutes in six appearances this season. Selected by the club in the first round, 29th overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft, he made his NHL debut at the end of the 2016-17 campaign before finishing +1 in five games vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

The Orebro, Sweden native has registered 6-24-30, 44 penalty minutes and a cumulative +13 plus/minus rating in 143 career AHL games with Cleveland. He has posted 2-10-12, 14 penalty minutes and a +13 plus/minus rating in 40 games with the Monsters this season.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Thursday when they visit the Buffalo Sabres.
