ELMONT, N.Y. -- Semyon Varlamov made 16 saves over two periods for the New York Islanders in a 2-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at UBS Arena on Sunday.

Scott Mayfield broke a tie in the second period for the Islanders, who lost their first two preseason games. Jakub Skarek made eight saves in the third period.
Tony DeAngelo scored for Philadelphia, and Samuel Ersson made 21 saves.
DeAngelo scored during a 5-on-3 power play at 3:26 of the second period to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
New York responded when Kyle Palmieri scored with the man-advantage at 10:15 to make it 1-1, and Mayfield gave them a 2-1 lead shortly after a power play expired at 15:18.
Skarek made saves against Noah Cates and DeAngelo in the final two seconds of the game to preserve the win.
