FLAMES NAME BILL PETERS HEAD COACH

Peters is the franchise's 19th head coach

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have named Bill Peters as the franchise's 19th head coach. Peters joins the Flames after spending the past four seasons as the head coach with the Carolina Hurricanes.

A native of Three Hills, Alberta, Peters brings 21 years of coaching experience to the club. Prior to serving the Hurricanes, the 53-year-old was an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings from 2011-12 through the 2013-14 season. Before that, he led the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs for three campaigns from 2008-09 and 2010-11. 

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League for the 1999-00 season through to 2001-02. He accepted his first head coaching job when he took over at the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns for three seasons starting in 2002-03. After that, he went back to Spokane as the Chiefs head coach in 2005-06. In 2007-08, he guided Spokane to an Ed Chynoweth Cup WHL championship and a Memorial Cup championship.

Peters played college hockey in Alberta for two seasons at Augustana and one for the Red Deer College Kings where they won the 1989 ACAC championship. 

Peters has an extensive international coaching resume. He was recently named as the head coach for Canada's National team competing at the 2018 IIHF World Championship starting in May. He was an assistant coach with Canada's Championship team at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He also captured a gold medal as head coach of Canada's National team at the 2016 IIHF World Championship and also won a gold medal as an assistant coach in 2015. He has also won a gold medal at the 2008 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament, where he was head coach of Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 team, and a silver medal as an assistant coach with Team Pacific at the 2005 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. 

Bill and his wife Denise, have two children: Aleze and Ayden.

FLAMES ASSIGN THREE PLAYERS TO STOCKTON

Rasmus Andersson, Jon Gillies and Spencer Foo will join the Heat

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned forward Spencer Foo, defenceman Rasmus Andersson, and goaltender Jon Gillies to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League

Foo, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, skated in four games for the Flames this season scoring two goals including his first career NHL goal on April 5th in Winnipeg. Foo is having a sensational year in Stockton where he has 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 59 games in his first professional season.

Andersson, a native of Malmo, Sweden, has seen action in ten games for the Flames this season. The AHL All-Star has been very impressive in his second professional season with eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points with the Stockton Heat this season.

Gillies, a native of Concord, New Hampshire, has played in 11 games between the pipes for the Flames this season. The 24-year-old sports a 3-5-1 record with a 2.88 GAA and 0.896 SV% for the Flames this season. Gillies has seen action in 36 games in Stockton this year sporting a 15-15-3 record with a 2.54 GAA and a .916 SV%.

FLAMES ASSIGN OLIVER KYLINGTON TO STOCKTON

The defenceman's emergency recall has been terminated

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have terminated the emergency recall on defenceman Oliver Kylington and have reassigned him to Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Kylington, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, just completed his third full season with the Stockton Heat where he netted five goals and added 26 assists for 31 points in 56 games. He has played one NHL game for the Flames during the 2015-16 season.

FLAMES ASSIGN DILLON DUBE TO STOCKTON HEAT

D'Artagnan Joly has also joined the Heat on an ATO

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned forward Dillon Dube to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. Stockton has also signed forward D'Artagnan Joly to an ATO.  

Dube, a native of Cochrane, Alberta, was drafted by the Flames in the second round, 56th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old had career-highs in goals with 38, assists with 46, and points with 84 for the Kelowna Rockets this season. Dube also captained the 2018 Canadian World Junior team this past December and January where he had two goals and two assists for four points in six games and took home a gold medal. Dube appeared in one playoff game last season for the Heat.

Joly, a native of Gatineau, QC, was drafted by the Flames in the sixth round, 171st overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old had his best junior season of his career with career-highs in goals with 23, assists with 45, and points with 68 in 55 games. Joly finished the season second on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL in scoring with his 68 points and led the team in assists.

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled defenceman Oliver Kylington on an emergency basis from the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. Kylington is only eligible to play if one of the six healthy roster defencemen is unable to participate.

FLAMES RECALL SPENCER FOO FROM STOCKTON

The forward has 20 goals in his first season with the Heat

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled forward Spencer Foo from the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Foo, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, was signed by the Calgary Flames this past off-season as a college free agent on Jul. 27, 2017. The Union College product is having a strong first professional season with the Stockton Heat notching 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 59 games. Foo is third on the Heat in scoring and second in goals, just one behind Andrew Mangiapane (21). The 23-year-old scored his first professional hat trick on December 6, 2017 in a 6-0 routing of the San Jose Barracuda.

FLAMES RECALL JON GILLIES FROM STOCKTON

David Rittich has been assigned to the Heat

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled goaltender Jon Gillies from the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. The Flames have also assigned goaltender David Rittich to Stockton.

Gillies, a native of Concord, New Hampshire, has played in 36 games with the Heat this season recording 15 wins, four shutouts, sports a 2.54 GAA and .916 SV%. The 24-year-old has appeared in seven games for the Flames this season posting a 2-2-1 record with a 2.78 GAA and .904 SV%.

FLAMES ASSIGN NICK SCHNEIDER TO STOCKTON

The netminder just wrapped up his 2017-18 season with the Calgary Hitmen

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have assigned goaltender Nick Schneider to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Schneider, a native of Leduc, Alberta, was signed by the Flames to an entry level contract on Sept. 23, 2015. Schneider, who spent most of his junior career with the Medicine Hat Tigers, was traded to the Calgary Hitmen on May 26, 2017. The 20-year-old played in a career-high 60 games for the Hitmen this season ending with a 20-29-2 record while posting a 3.64 GAA and .887 SV%. Schneider has played in nine games for the Stockton Heat in his career, all coming in 2015-16 where he sported a 4-5-0 record with a 3.92 GAA and a .876 SV%.

FLAMES RECALL RASMUS ANDERSSON FROM STOCKTON

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have recalled defenceman Rasmus Andersson from the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Andersson, a native of Malmo, Sweden, was drafted in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. The 21-year-old right-shot defenceman has eight goals and 30 assists for 38 points in 53 games this season in Stockton. Andersson has shown in one game for the Flames this season on November 9th where he finished as a plus two. The 2017-18 AHL All-Star is in his second professional season and has career-highs in goals, assists, and points in 2017-18.

Mike Smith has been activated off of the injured reserve

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames announced today that they have activated goaltender, Mike Smith off the injured reserve. In addition, the Flames have terminated the emergency recall status of goaltender, Jon Gillies and have assigned him to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Gillies, a native Concord, NH has appeared in seven games between the pipes for the Flames this season. The 24-year-old goaltender posted a 2-2-1 record with the Flames notching a 2.78 GAA and a .904 SV%. Gillies, who has played in 31 games for the Stockton Heat this season, owns a 14-12-2 record with a 2.61 GAA and a .915 SV% in the AHL in 2017-18.
