Vancouver, BC - The Vancouver Canucks are honoured to host their fourth annual Women’s Empowerment Night, presented by TD this Saturday, March 9, the day after International Women’s Day. This night provides an opportunity to celebrate the next generation of female hockey players, the remarkable female leaders that guide our organization and reaffirm that Hockey is for Everyone.

Recognized universally, International Women’s Day helps empower women globally and is a day to teach, reflect and deepen knowledge about accomplishments made by women.

While there is always more to do in support of gender equality, Canucks Sports & Entertainment is proud that approximately half of our full-time workforce are women, and we have senior female leaders across our hockey and business operations teams.

“There are exceptional women guiding Canucks Sports & Entertainment that are making a difference in the sports and entertainment industry every day,” said Michael Doyle, President, Canucks Sports & Entertainment, Business Operations. “This night will bring our fans together to stand united in support of women's equality and allow us to reflect on the ways we can help champion this important cause, while celebrating many of the great leaders that guide our organization.”

On International Women’s Day and Women’s Empowerment Night, the Canucks will celebrate the women of Canucks Sports & Entertainment that embody our values as an organization and create an environment for continued progress and growth for women in sport. Follow Canucks social feeds to see these profiles and learn more about community leaders that are champions for the growth of women’s and girl’s hockey.

“What I love most about working here is the opportunity to collaborate with dynamic, creative and strategic female colleagues that leave their mark on our success every single day,” proclaimed Wynn Moody, Vice President, Arena Operations & Fan Experience.

The Vancouver Canucks are thrilled to partner with Grindstone Award Foundation for the third year in a row. Since its inception in 2014, Grindstone Award Foundation has provided more than 140 financial grants (totaling $72,000) to keep young girls in hockey, expanding from Kelowna to a national movement. The Canucks for Kids Fund is proud to donate $20,000 to Grindstone to help keep young girls in hockey. Fans can learn more about this charity by visiting their booth on the concourse at Section 111, or by going online at grindstoneaward.com.

The Canucks are also honoured to continue to support the efforts of Assistant General Manager Cammi Granato, who through her Girls Hockey Grant, helps keep girls involved in youth hockey. Granato has also published a book titled, “I Can Play Too”, based on her own experiences growing up and playing hockey at a young age, with the hopes of encouraging more young girls to follow their hockey passions. More information about Granato’s book, grant, and community engagement can be found at https://cammigranato21.com/.

During Women’s Empowerment Night, you’ll hear Caroline Frolic take over as our guest PA announcer, and the evening will be hosted by Kat Stefankiewicz and Nhi Do. Singer Ayla Tesler-Mabé will be performing pre-game, as well as during the first and second intermissions and Elizabeth Irving will perform the national anthem.

You’ll also see representatives from local minor hockey groups including Hockey 4 Youth, a minor hockey program aimed to increase social inclusion for new Canadian and high-priority youth through on-ice and off-ice programming, and Black Girl Hockey Club Canada, a non-profit that focuses on inspiring and sustaining passion for the game of hockey within the Black community, specifically with mothers, sisters, daughters and friends.
