Before puck drop, check out five facts about Shutt during the 1976-77 season and his career.
5 - Goal machine
Not only did Steve Shutt lead the entire league in goal-scoring in 1976-77, with a career-high 60 goals in 80 games, but he was also the first left-winger in NHL history to score 60 goals in a season.
He still holds the Canadiens record for goals in a season, tied with Hall of Fame teammate Guy Lafleur. Shutt would go on to score 424 goals during his career, not to mention an additional 50 goals in postseason play.

4 - Crease crasher
Beyond his excellent shot, arguably the best in the NHL at the time, Shutt was well known for hounding the opposing crease and jumping on every rebound with relentless ferocity. His goals were often described as "garbage goals", which was clearly a misnomer according to Shutt's Hall of Fame teammates.
"They talk a lot about 'garbage goals', but it didn't come by luck. The timing of Steve Shutt was unbelievable, said Serge Savard. "He was always at the right place, and that's not luck. You could have ten rebounds and not be there, but Steve Shutt was there ten times. He was always there to put the puck in the net." (Legends of Hockey Documentary)

3 - Record holder
Shutt reached a career-high in points in the 1976-77 season, with 105 points. He would finish third overall in scoring, trailing only Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne.
Even more impressively, the vast majority of his goals came at even strength. Of his 60 goals, 52 were scored when both teams had equal numbers on the ice, which still stands as a record in the Montreal Canadiens organization.

2 - Fast hands
As one of the best goal-scorers of his era, Shutt possessed lightning quick reflexes and fantastic hand-eye coordination. His secret? Competition. Lots and lots of competition.
"We always had about fifteen kids on the ice," said Shutt. "And so there wasn't a lot of room. And so you had to be really quick with your hands." (Legends of Hockey Documentary)
