5 - An offensive defenseman
Pointu, as he was known around the League, scored 25 goals in 1976-77, tied with Denis Potvin for the league lead in goal-scoring among defensemen. He also led all Canadiens rearguards in scoring throughout the playoffs, tallying 12 points in 12 games.

4 - Team prankster
Lapointe went as far as tricking his own coach at the time, none other than Scotty Bowman. He snuck a whistle into practice, cutting the legendary coach's drills short on many occasions.
But his most famous prank occurred when he tricked Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau into shaking his hand following a Canadiens victory at The Forum. The twist? Lapointe had coated his hand in vaseline prior to shaking the hand of the country's leader.

3 - Six-time Stanley Cup champ
Lapointe won his fourth Stanley Cup during the Canadiens' dominant run in 1976-77. He'd add two more to his credit, including four straight wins from 1976 to 1979.

2 - Canada Cup Champion
Lapointe didn't just win a Stanley Cup in 1976-77. He started the year off in style by featuring on Team Canada's gold-medal-winning roster at the 1976 Canada Cup.

1 - Hall of Famer
The six-foot defenseman was a significant part of the famous "Big Three"- which included legends Serge Savard and Larry Robinson - and many Stanley Cup-winning rosters, but there's no debating that he also displayed excellence from an individual standpoint.
Lapointe's fantastic career included four career All-Star appearances. He earned a well-deserved nomination to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993 and his No. 5 was retired by the Canadiens in 2014.
