Healthy Hawks

Under the guidance of a Pilot Light teacher, participants will create a nutrient-dense snack while making connections to their own daily decision-making. Participants will be provided with the opportunity to interact and learn about the fresh, seasonal produce that will help fuel their bodies for the demands of exercise. The activity will require them to think critically about the ways in which their food choices impact themselves, their families, and the people of their communities. Participants will be engaged in the lesson through a mix of hands-on activities, group work, discussion and individual reflection. The children will also participate in guided activities in the gym. Ranges from stretching, running, jumping, relay races and other fun activities.

Requirements:

  • 25 children per group between the ages of 9-13 years old
  • Arrival to Fifth Third Arena by 2:15 p.m.
  • Two chaperones from the participating organization

Summer Program Dates:

Weeks of July 8, 15, 22, 29, August 5, and August 12. Tuesday-Thursday only. No session available on July 9.

Schedule:
Two groups will participate each day.

Group 1:

  • 2:30-3:15 p.m.: Healthy Eating
  • 3:15-4:00 p.m.: Physical Fitness

Group 2:

  • 2:30-3:15 p.m.: Physical Fitness
  • 3:15-4:00 p.m.: Healthy Eating

Resources provided to participating groups:

  • Transportation for groups to and from MB Ice Arena
  • Teacher trained in Pilot Light's food education methodology
  • Healthy snacks
  • Gym facilitator instruction
