Sept. 25 – Sabres trim camp roster to 29
The Sabres assigned the following players to the Rochester Americans:
- Forwards Thomas Bordeleau, Matteo Costantini, Riley Fiddler-Schultz, Zac Funk, Matthew Peca, Jake Richard, Redmond Savage, Graham Slaggert, Liam Valente, and Brendan Warren
- Defensemen Vsevolod Komarov, Noah Laaouan, Gavin McCarthy, Radim Mrtka, and Maxim Strbak
- Goaltenders Talyn Boyko and Scott Ratzlaff
Additionally, the following players have been assigned to Rochester pending waiver clearance:
- Forwards Mason Geertsen, Trevor Kuntar, Aidan McDonough, Carson Meyer, and Jason Polin
- Defensemen Dennis Gilbert and Ryan Johnson
- Goaltender Matt Villalta
The moves leave the Sabres with 29 players on their camp roster, though that number includes goalie prospect Topias Leinonen, who has missed all of camp thus far with a lower-body injury.
NHL teams must finalize their 23-man rosters for the start of the regular season by 5 p.m. on Monday.

Sept. 25 – Injury updates from Friday’s practice
Following Friday’s practice at KeyBank Center, coach Lindy Ruff provided the following injury updates:
- Goalie Alex Lyon is still being evaluated for the upper-body injury sustained in Thursday’s game. The team should have more details Saturday.
- Forward Jiri Kulich, who exited the Detroit game as a precaution, missed practice for maintenance. He’ll likely skate Saturday but not play in the preseason finale.
- Defenseman Mattias Samuelsson (lower body) told Ruff, “This isn’t gonna be that long.” It’s a question of pain tolerance, and Ruff thinks Samuelsson could return on the early end of his week-to-week timeline.
- Defenseman Olen Zellweger (concussion protocol) has progressed to skating. “In all likelihood, I would anticipate him being ready for next week,” Ruff said.
- Forward Noah Ostlund missed practice for maintenance after playing 23:56 on Thursday.
Sept. 25 – Sabres sign Grzelcyk to 1-year deal
The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to a one-year contract worth $850,000.
Grzelcyk, 32, is a veteran of 596 games spanning 10 NHL seasons. He spent 2025-26 with Chicago, tallying 12 assists in 69 games.
The addition gives the Sabres another left-shot defenseman in the wake of injuries to Mattias Samuelsson (lower body, week to week) and Olen Zellweger (concussion protocol).
