The Buffalo Sabres lost 4-3 in overtime to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday at Bell Centre.
Buffalo (4-3-2) overcame a two-goal deficit for the third straight game and fifth time overall this season, but Cole Caufield won it in OT for Montreal. The Sabres finish this week of Atlantic Division games having earned six of eight possible points.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen started in net and made 30 saves on 34 shots. His biggest moment came late in the second period, when he stopped an Alex Newhook breakaway to hold the Sabres’ deficit at one.
Tage Thompson tied it in the third period with his 218th career goal, passing Jason Pominville to stand alone at 10th in Sabres history. Next up is ninth-place Rene Robert (222 career goals).
Jack Quinn started the comeback with his fifth goal of the season – and third in the last two games. It was his first career shorthanded goal, coming moments after a 4-on-4 expired.
