Adult Learn to Play

The Adult Learn to Play program is back this summer!

This is designed for individuals with little to no playing experience but are eager to get out on the ice. This comprehensive program offers a unique experience that provides participants with the essential skills and knowledge to navigate the world of hockey with an emphasis on team training.

Overview

Adult Learn to Play is designed specifically for beginners who are new to the sport. Current league players or experienced participants should not register for this program.

Each session is led by on-ice instructors with a focus on skating fundamentals, basic hockey skills, and overall game introduction in a supportive environment.

The program runs for 10 weeks and includes 7 instructional practices followed by 3 games with coaching.

Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to transition to an Adult League team for the Fall/Winter season.

Participants will have the option to purchase equipment with a scheduled equipment fitting included in their cost or if they chose to provide their own equipment, there will be a prorated cost.

Testimonials

Sydney MacFarlane | Fan Development Coordinator

Growing up in Michigan, hockey was always around me, but I didn’t start playing until years later when I began working for the Predators and coworkers encouraged me to give it a try. When the Women’s Learn to Play program launched, I immediately signed up, excited to learn something new and challenge myself. During the program, I learned the fundamentals of skating, shooting, and gameplay while practicing alongside an amazing group of women who were all learning together in a supportive, judgment-free environment. After the program ended, I joined the Women’s League and was placed on the Frozen Assets with my coworker Shawnee. Thursday night games quickly became the highlight of my week as I continued learning from talented teammates and building lasting friendships. Our locker room was always positive, filled with encouragement, laughs, and even postgame dance parties. With only a few teams in the league, friendships extend across the entire community, often continuing after games as we gather to talk, relive plays, and catch up on life together.

I always wanted to play hockey as a kid, but the closest permanent sheet of ice was over 2 hours away, so I never had the opportunity. Being at the rink for my nephew's youth league games gave me the urge to try to learn to play. I found the Adult Learn to Play program and signed up. It was a great value and an awesome experience. I feel like the coaches really did a great job teaching basic hockey skills to where I could join the Adult League without a huge barrier of entry. The Adult Learn to Play was a great crash course for Rookie league in Bellevue where I feel like I am continuing to develop my playing skill. I am also now signed up to help coach my nephew's Middle School League team. Without the Adult Learn to Play program, it is safe to stay I would not be where I am now in my hockey journey!

Julie Cummings | Women's League Player

It was July 2024, my husband and I did the Co-Ed Learn to Play together. We were really looking for an active sport to do again as adults and have that team. The second we got into it, we just we loved it. I saw the Women's League registration open and wanted to take the chance. Have something that is my own. It was really the thing that made me fall in love with hockey and the whole journey. There's such camaraderie in the friendships. It's mixed level and with coming out of learn to play, it was intimating skating with those that played in college. It was also so welcoming and low pressure. It is still competitive, but also a good chance to try things and learn from one another. Anywhere we go, we talk about it. We all love it so much and we want to advocate for it. Get out there, fall, get back up. It is such a rewarding sport.
