Hockey Fights Cancer
Cancer affects thousands of Albertans every year—and for many, the journey is long and complex. Through partnerships and purpose-driven initiatives, the EOCF helps fund life-changing programs, innovative treatments and essential support for those facing cancer.
The EOCF partners with the Kids with Cancer Society, Ben Stelter Foundation, Alberta Cancer Foundation and Movember on Oilers theme nights, league-wide Hockey Fights Cancer initiatives, 50/50 raffles, and branded merchandise sales. These efforts help raise important funds that support select cancer charities.

- Funded critical cancer treatment and research through the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
- Supported Kids with Cancer Care Society programs that help families access services such as financial assistance, housing and counselling during cancer treatment.
Kids In Oil Country
Kids are our future, and the EOCF is committed to their overall well-being. By supporting kids and expanding access to sport and community programs, the foundation helps create meaningful connections and opportunities. Thanks to the generosity of fans, funds raised through 50/50 draws directly benefit kids in their own communities, representing hope, healing and possibility.
The EOCF partners with the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Make-A-Wish Canada, 880 CHED Santas Anonymous, Ronald McDonald House and Tim Hortons Foundation Camps through initiatives such as equipment donations, registration fee coverage, annual Oilers player hospital visits, care packages in collaboration with Alberta Blue Cross, 50/50 raffles during Oilers games, kid ambassador involvement in events with players and the foundation, and unused game ticket donations to charities such as “Seats for Kids.” These initiatives help provide vital support to children and families in Oil Country.
Other Examples of Impact
Helped families stay together during medical crises by supporting organizations that provide a home away from home for those with sick children.
Provided transformative camp experiences that foster growth, leadership and resilience for thousands of Alberta kids.
Helped grant over 160 wishes for children in Northern Alberta in 2024—offering joy, relief and lasting memories during difficult medical journeys.
Funded specialized medical equipment such as ECMO and MADD pumps, proven to increase survival rates for leukemia patients.
Donated over 4,300 tickets in the 2024–25 season to Oilers and Oil Kings games, giving kids from underserved communities unforgettable game day experiences.
Feeding Oil Country
Everyone deserves to feel supported beyond the ice. By addressing food insecurity, the foundation is helping create more stable and hopeful days for kids and families. This includes supporting the purchase of bulk food and essential hard-to-source items, so more Albertans can access the nutrition they need.
The EOCF partners with Food Banks Alberta, Edmonton’s Food Bank, APPLE Schools, Second Harvest and Hope Mission through initiatives such as annual Hope Mission dinners featuring Oilers players serving meals, Feeding Oil Country 50/50 raffles, funding hamper programs and supporting school breakfast and snack programs. It also supports healthy lifestyle and educational initiatives that help kids make good choices. These efforts provide critical support to those facing food insecurity across Oil Country.
Other Examples of Impact
- Funded over 100 food banks across Oil Country, helping people and families in need throughout Alberta.
- Helped distribute more than 320,000 pounds of food to those experiencing food insecurity.
- Launched a new food recovery program at Rogers Place in partnership with Second Harvest and La Tablée des Chefs, redirecting surplus food from games and events to local charities.
Pets of Oil Country
For many, pets are family. Supporting animal welfare reflects shared values of kindness, compassion and care for the vulnerable—both two-legged and four-legged. Thanks to our fans, contributions are helping improve the lives of animals and people across the community.
The EOCF supports animal welfare in Oil Country by partnering with the Edmonton Humane Society, Dogs with Wings, SCARS and Zoe’s Animal Rescue. It provides funding for rescue initiatives, veterinary care subsidies and food supplies for pet owners in crisis. These efforts help protect vulnerable animals and the people who care for them.

- Helped pets access critical veterinary services when their owners were unable to afford care.
- Assisted with operational costs for shelters—including food, litter, daily care, and the delivery of programs and services through the Edmonton Humane Society.
- Contributed to the training and care of PTSD service dogs alongside Dogs with Wings and Wounded Warriors Canada.
Urgent Need in Oil Country
The EOCF takes pride in stepping up when it matters—helping neighbours, supporting first responders and playing a part in keeping communities safe.
The EOCF supports emergency response efforts across Oil Country and partners with organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross and STARS. This includes rapid response through emergency relief grants during natural disasters such as wildfires and funding operational costs to ensure critical services remain available when they’re needed most.

- Directed $100,000 to the Jasper Wildfires Appeal to support immediate emergency relief.
- Contributed an additional $20,000 in July 2025 to further assist wildfire recovery efforts.
- Supported operations at the STARS Edmonton base, helping ensure critical emergency care continues reaching rural and remote communities.
Heroes of Oil Country
With strong ties to military communities in Cold Lake, Wainwright and Edmonton, the foundation understands the importance of standing strong together and honouring the sacrifice and resilience of those who serve. Supporting these initiatives provides a powerful way to give back to the heroes who have given so much.
The EOCF partners with Homes for Heroes, Wounded Warriors, Soldier On and the 4 Wing Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) Cold Lake to support members of the Canadian Armed Forces and veterans. This includes hosting Military Appreciation Nights, dedicated 50/50 raffles and funding programs that provide PTSD support and services for unhoused veterans.

- Supported a long-running tutoring program at MFRC Cold Lake, helping students in Grades 1–12 reach their academic potential.
- Contributed to the construction of 21 tiny homes for unhoused veterans in the Edmonton region through Homes for Heroes.
- Funded wraparound programs that support veterans transitioning to civilian life, including camps that help children of first responders living with PTSD navigate the unique challenges their families face.
- Hosted annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Games, featuring military-themed ceremonies, fundraising for veteran services, and activations honouring CAF members.
- Recognized a Canadian military veteran at every Oilers home game through the Warrior Program, in partnership with the Legion and Ford Canada.
- Hosted annual Soldier On camps that united veterans and serving members through the sport of hockey.
- Partnered with Edmonton Oilers Alumni to provide up to 17 ill or injured CAF members each year with opportunities to use hockey as part of their recovery and reintegration.
Remembering Joey Moss
Joey Moss was a beloved figure in the Oilers community whose legacy continues to inspire. His impact lives on through initiatives like the Joey Moss Cup, which raises funds for organizations close to his heart, and through spaces that now carry his name—including a school and a city park.
The EOCF partners with the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society, Special Olympics and the Winnifred Stewart Association to honour the legacy of Joey Moss. These partnerships celebrate inclusion, ability and community—values that Joey embodied every day.

- Supported the annual Joey Moss Cup, raising funds for organizations he cared about.
- Contributed to the Joey Moss Memorial Fund to support inclusive employment and training opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.
- Funded the furnishing of Joey’s Home Mindful Hearts Memory Care Centre, expanding supportive housing for individuals with dementia-related needs and intellectual disabilities. The project added five new units, bringing the total to 17 specialized spaces.
- Supported the annual Joey Moss Invitational Floor Hockey Tournament in partnership with Special Olympics Alberta.
- Supported the Joey Moss Memorial Golf Tournament each year alongside Oilers Alumni.
Other
Beyond the initiatives outlined above, Standing Up for Oil Country also promotes mental health awareness through in-game broadcasts like Hockey Talks and work with CASA Mental Health. It supports Indigenous communities through dedicated programming and theme nights, celebrates Pride through various events hosted in ICE District and team theme nights, and partners with the ALS Society, Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Heart and Stroke, University Hospital Foundation, Alberta Lung, the Alzheimer Society and many others to advance health-related initiatives.

- Funded mental health initiatives that helped CASA support youth beyond clinical settings through experiences that foster healing and connection and invested in upgraded technology to improve the quality and accessibility of mental health services.
- Supported funding that enabled MacEwan University’s Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity to establish an endowment to advance sustainable equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Hosted annual Pride Cup events in ICE District that promoted inclusion in sport, reinforcing that hockey and all sports are for everyone.
- Supported Spirit North’s year-round sports programming for Indigenous children and youth in Enoch First Nation, Paul Band, Alexis First Nation and the Edmonton urban area. These programs help strengthen community connections, create leadership pathways and foster long-term well-being.
- Funded construction and operation of Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society’s community sweat lodge, enabling free community events, trauma-informed staff training, and the continuation of Indigenous culture in Edmonton.
