DETROIT — Four second-period goals helped propel the Red Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Flames Monday at Little Caesars Arena.

Morgan Frost and Matt Coronato replied for Calgary; Coronato and linemate Matvei Gridin finished the contest with two points each as the Flames wrapped their five-game Eastern road trip.

The Flames took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Frost, who linked up with Gridin on the opener with 2:25 remaining in the first period. Gridin skated down the right wing, zipping a cross-ice pass to his linemate for a backdoor tap-in.

But in the second, the Red Wings offence came alive. Kane scored on a breakaway just past the one-minute mark, before Emmitt Finnie gave the hosts the lead four minutes later.

Kane scored his second on a rush after some significant Calgary pressure at 6:37, putting Detroit ahead 3-1. But Coronato answered back 46 seconds later. The winger accepted a pass from Gridin in the high slot, and his shot slipped through Red Wings starter John Gibson’s legs after taking a deflation off a defenceman's skate.

Moritz Seider struck again for the hosts before the period was through, snapping his ninth of the season through traffic on a Detroit powerplay.

Dominik Shine capped the evening off with an empty-netter with just over a minute left on the clock.
