Macoun, who was undrafted, started his NHL career in the 1982-83 season when he suited up for 22 games with the Flames after completing his collegiate career with Ohio State. He spent several years with the club, helping the Flames win the Stanley Cup in 1989, before moving on to Toronto and Detroit, where he went on to win his second Stanley Cup in 1998. In total, the former defenceman played in 1128 regular season NHL games and 159 playoff games.
Following his playing career, he settled back in Calgary where he has remained an extremely active member of the Flames alumni group. He works with a number of charities and organizations, intent on bettering the community and assisting those in need.
