As a 16-year-old rookie for Erie of the Ontario Hockey League in 2013-14, Strome scored 10 goals and 39 points and was plus-11. He also had six goals and 11 points in five games to lead Team Ontario in scoring at the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, and scored five goals in five games at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, helping Canada to the gold medal.
In his second OHL season, Strome won the league scoring title with 129 points (45 goals, 84 assists) in 2014-15 and had a plus-47 rating. Strome's assist and point totals were franchise records.

Strome had 22 points in 20 playoff games that season as Erie advanced to the OHL final.
One of Arizona's final training camp cuts in 2015, Strome returned to juniors and was named Erie's captain, succeeding Connor McDavid, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Strome had four goals and two assists in five games for Canada at the 2016 World Junior Championship, tying Mitchell Marner for the team points lead.
Strome made his NHL debut Oct. 18, 2016, getting an assist in the Coyotes' 7-4 loss at the Ottawa Senators. He played 48 games in three seasons with Arizona before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 25, 2018.
