BONES IS BACK
After four games, the Jets will have Rick Bowness back behind the bench for his regular season debut. Bowness missed the first four games of the season with COVID and says outside of dealing with fatigue, he is symptom free and ready to go. He has only missed one game in his coaching career before this season and that was when he was with Dallas. It allowed him to watch from afar and he seems to be satisfied with the 2-2 start but there is plenty of room for improvement heading into tonight's game against the Maple Leafs.
"It's a tough, tough schedule and tonight's game is going to be very, very tough. We know that" said Bowness following the morning skate at Canada Life Centre.
"We want to be in that conversation with the teams that are elite. Teams like that, that are considered to be Stanley Cup contenders. If we want to be in that conversation, then we have to find a way to win some of these games."
HIGH EVENT GAMES VS. LEAFS
There has been no shortage of entertainment whenever the Jets play the Leafs. It seems like a lot of emotion has carried over from the ten times they played one another from the Canadian Division days. It's hard to forget the last time these two met at Canada Life Centre with a hard fought 6-3 win over Toronto. The Leafs have recalled Kyle Clifford and Wayne Simmonds, and both will be in the lineup tonight. When asked about the possibility of the game taking a truculent tone, Bowness seemed more concerned about his group.
"They're going to play who they're going to play and they're going to play their style. Those two guys you mentioned are great teammates and they're very physical players, we get that," said Bowness.
"Regardless of who they put on the ice, we have a game plan in place and we're going to stick to the way we want to play the game."
