Robertson signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Stars on July 21. The 27-year-old forward was a restricted free agent and avoided a salary arbitration hearing. He can sign a long-term contract beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
Robertson has five points (two goals, three assists) in seven games for Dallas (3-3-1). He led the Stars with 96 points (45 goals, 51 assists) in 82 games last season, one goal shy of the career-high 46 goals he scored in 2022-23. He had eight points (five goals, three assists) in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. Dallas was eliminated by the Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference First Round.
The Stars are 3-1-1 in their past five games after losing their first two this season.
“I mean, at the start of the season all I can think about is getting the season going, getting a rhythm,” Robertson said Saturday. I think after 20 games is when you start to understand.
“The first 10 games, OK, you get into it and after the first 20 you can start to reevaluate the season and everything. We’re still in that area with all the guys, (and) personally for me too. Every guy can evaluate their season through a quarter of the year so, all we’re focused on is the first 20 games and reevaluate then.”
Selected by the Stars in the second round (No. 39) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Robertson has 495 points (215 goals, 280 assists) in 463 regular-season games and 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists) in 62 playoff games.
"I mean, Dallas obviously, it's where I started,” Robertson said in July. “I've built a great career out here and obviously throughout the summer you see where the League is going, see what happens and everything. Obviously if anything was going to work for me, just to keep reevaluating because things were happening so quickly and things are changing that going this route and seeing what happens, see what's going to happen and reevaluate and have the time and everything, it helps along the way.”
