On Friday, October 2, the LA Kings Ice Crew and Bailey visited Para Los Niños Elementary School to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. With approximately 96.6% of its student body identifying as Hispanic, the dual-immersion school was a fitting place to recognize Hispanic culture and community.

The day began with a Spanish-language reading of B is for Bailey for three kindergarten classes. The bilingual book teaches the basics of hockey in both English and Spanish through the alphabet, giving students a fun opportunity to learn about the sport in both languages. Outside the classroom, fourth- and fifth-grade students took part in ball hockey sessions led by the LA Kings Hockey Development team.

This visit is one of the many ways the LA Kings connect with and support the Hispanic community throughout Southern California. This season, we’re proud to host Salvadoran Heritage in October and Mexican Heritage in February, partnering with organizations that represent and support both cultures.

Just one day later, on October 3, the LA Kings co-hosted a Hispanic Heritage celebration with our partner, 24 Degrees of Color. The LA Kings Ice Crew led a fun and interactive Salsa dancing lesson, while USA Hockey helped support the event by providing giveaways for the attendees. The event brought families and community members together for a celebration of music, food and culture. It was a vibrant celebration of the many cultures that make our community so unique.

Now in its fourth year, Salvadoran Heritage continues to receive incredible support from the community. We’re proud to continue our partnership with AFJA, which works to expand access to organized sports in Central America.

We’re also proud to recognize the voices that help bring the game to life for our Spanish-speaking fans, including Francisco Rivera, the LA Kings’ Spanish play-by-play announcer. Through his work, Francisco helps connect with and engage Spanish-speaking fans throughout Southern California.

While Hispanic Heritage Month provides an important opportunity to honor Hispanic culture, the LA Kings are committed to continuing the celebration beyond September and October. From October 28 through November 4, we will host two community ofrendas at Toyota Sports Performance Center and LA Kings Iceland in Paramount, giving fans and community members another opportunity to honor Hispanic traditions together.

The LA Kings remain committed to building meaningful connections with the diverse communities that make Los Angeles so special.
