They turned back the clock.

They stunned in their retro threads.

And Saturday, the Flames dialled up the energy, scoring three times in the second period to best the Red Wings 4-1 at the Scotiabank Saddledome to extend their winning streak to three games.

Joel Farabee had a goal and two assists - his second three-point game as a Flame - while Zayne Parekh, Ryan Strome and Matvei Gridin all lit the lamp in period two.

Devin Cooley earned his third victory in as many tries, too, making 28 saves.

The Turning Point:

Up 2-1 late in period two, and facing heavy Red Wings pressure, the trio of Ryan Strome, Morgan Frost and Matvei Gridin turned the game on its ear.

The Flames got free of their defensive zone, allowing Gridin to move down the right wing. After crossing the blue line, he spotted Frost in open space on the left flank, zipping the puck across to his tape. Frost drove wide, sucking a defenceman below the goal line with him before popping the disc back into the low slot for Strome to chip past Detroit netminder John Gibson.

That tally extended the Calgary lead to 3-1, before Gridin added more salt with a powerplay snipe 1:26 later to give the home side a three-goal lead through 40 minutes.

The Big Save:

Devin Cooley turned in another stellar performance between the pipes, and his biggest save came two minutes after the Flames reclaimed their one-goal lead in period two.

Detroit's leading scorer, Alex DeBrincat, split the defence and cut in alone on Cooley, faking a forehand shot before trying a backhand move from just outside the blue paint.

But Cooley was more than equal to the task, descending into the splits and tracking the puck with his right pad, kicking out DeBrincat's effort to preserve the Calgary lead.

Power Players:

The Flames had two powerplay opportunities Saturday, and were extremely efficient on both.

They were allotted four minutes of powerplay time. They needed only 40 seconds of it to cash in twice, thanks to a pair of young guns.

Zayne Parekh collected his first goal of the campaign with a hard snapshot from the point 21 seconds after Alex DeBrincat was booked for hooking.

Then later in the period, Matvei Gridin picked the top corner over John Gibson's left shoulder, his goal coming just 19 seconds into Calgary's second powerplay of the night.

Turn Back Time:

As part of the pregame festivities, several members of the Flames 2004 squad lined up at centre ice for a ceremonial puck drop.

Mike Commodore, Dave Lowry, Craig Conroy, Robyn Regehr, Rhett Warrener as well as 2004 Head Coach / GM Darryl Sutter and son Chris walked the red carpet to raucous applause.

But another big ovation came for anthemist Heather Liscano. The voice of those memorable renditions of 'O Canada' during Calgary's 2004 run came back to the 'Dome for one more encore, providing the perfect aperitif to the night's action.

Ice Chips:

Gridin and Matt Coronato each finished the contest with two points ... Kevin Bahl logged 25:03 on the Flames blue line ... Cooley has stopped 98 of the last 102 shots he's faced over his current three-game winning streak.
