COL@NJD: Devils salute Allen reaching 500 NHL games

Jake Allen officially celebrated his 500th career NHL game on Tuesday.

The New Jersey Devils goaltender received his silver stick at Prudential Center before the team’s game against the Colorado Avalanche.

The ceremony began with a video of his wife, Shannon, and kids reacting to highlights from Allen’s career and sending their congratulations.

“Hi Jake, we’re so proud of you to reach 500 games in the NHL,” Shannon said in the video. “We’re happy to be along for the ride. We love you, and cheers to many more games.”

Allen skated to center ice after the video as the crowd gave him a standing ovation. He was then joined by his family.

Devils captain Nico Hischier and alternate captains Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt presented Allen with a custom 500-game fishing rod and an engraved Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch.

Hockey Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur — the League’s all-time leader in wins as a goalie, who played 21 of his 22 seasons in New Jersey — presented Allen with a custom Tiffany Crystal on behalf of the NHL.

Then, Devils co-owners David and Allison Blitzer presented Allen with his silver stick, and mini sticks for his kids.

Allen reached the milestone on Oct. 10 in a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks, becoming just the 86th goalie in NHL history to hit the achievement.
