#NJDevCamp Diary - Red vs. White Scrimmage

by Amanda Stein @AmandaCStein / newjerseydevils.com

All good things must come to an end. Five days of New Jersey Devils development camp came to a close in front of season ticket holders on Saturday with just one activity left on what has been a busy schedule: The annual development camp scrimmage. It was goals galore in the first period, defense first in the second, and an extended shootout to cap off the final day of camp. When all was said and done, and the equipment bags packed away, the Devils also made a signing to solidify the future.

CHICAGO -- With the first-overall selection in the 2017 NHL Draft, the New Jersey Devils selected Nico Hischier, and as the German-speaking Swiss said afterward, his heart rate hit a new high.

Ken Daneyko describes his NHL Draft day, which marked the first step in his path to becoming Mr. Devil in New Jersey

My nerves were at an all-time high ahead of the draft. I'm sure that's still the same today, for any young kid trying to fulfill their dream of getting drafted. I had gone out with my brother the night before and had a "soda" or two to ease the tension (I was 18, you could drink back then in Canada, it was legal!). I didn't go to the draft, because it was in Montreal and I was in Edmonton, and unlike today, not everyone went. I got home a little late and went to bed.
