Wild Prospects Report - Oct. 3

Minnesota’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Houston Aeros, opened training camp with practices, off-ice workouts and two split-squad scrimmages at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul last weekend.

Winger Jason Zucker scored both goals to lead Team Green to a 2-0 victory against Team Red in Saturday’s scrimmage, with Darcy Kuemper earning the victory in net. After two, 25-minute halves, Team Green also earned a 7-6 win in the bonus shootout session.

Team Green swept the scrimmages with a 5-2 victory Sunday. Mikael Granlund, Justin Fontaine, Jarod Palmer, Charlie Coyle and Zack Phillips each scored, while Kuemper earned the victory, allowing just one goal on the weekend.

Aeros staff and players departed for Houston following Sunday’s scrimmage and finished training camp yesterday at the Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center in suburban Houston. The Aeros begin preseason play in Austin for a matchup with the Texas Stars tonight, Oct. 3.

Canadian Hockey Leagues

LW Raphael Bussieres - Baie-Comeau (QMJHL): The Wild’s second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft registered a goal in two games as Baie-Comeau went 1-1 last week. In four games he has one goal and one assist.

D Matt Dumba - Red Deer (WHL): Minnesota’s first-round selection in this summer’s Draft totaled three assists and 7 PIM in two games last week…Received a major penalty and was suspended two games following a check to the head of an opponent during the Rebels’ season opener. After three games Dumba has registered three assists.

C Tyler Graovac - Ottawa (OHL): Totaled four goals and a +3 rating in two games last week, including a natural hat trick in the opening 8:07 of an 8-1win vs. Erie Saturday, with the third goal coming shorthanded. D John Draeger - Michigan State (CCHA): The Wild’s third-round selection in this summer’s NHL Entry Draft is set to start his collegiate hockey career when Michigan State hosts an exhibition game against Windsor on Oct. 8. The Spartans open the regular season in Minnesota against the Gophers on Oct. 12.

RW Adam Gilmour - Muskegon (USHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round pick in June’s Draft registered an assist and five shots in the Lumberjacks’ 6-3 win vs. Team USA to start the regular season.

RW Anthony Hamburg - RIT (AHA): Begins his first year with Rochester Institute of Technology after playing seven games with Colgate University in 2010-11. The Tigers host Ottawa in an exhibition to start the season on Oct. 8.

LW Erik Haula - University of Minnesota (WCHA): Starts his junior season with the Gophers, ranked No. 1 in the country. Minnesota opens play when it hosts Lethbridge on Oct. 6.

LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (CCHA): Suffered a broken leg before the start of his first season with the Irish and is out indefinitely.

LW Louis Nanne - Penticton (BCHL): Returned to action after missing two games on personal leave, registering four points (1-3=4) and 2 PIM in two games. Penticton leads the league with a record of 7-1-0-0 after being the No. 1 team in the first rankings of the season. Nanne has skated in six games this season.

D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (WCHA): The Wild’s fifth-round selection from the 2011 NHL Entry Draft is set to start his freshman season with the Mavericks with an exhibition against Lethbridge on Oct. 8.


RW Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): Minnesota's sixth-round pick in the 2012 Draft has skated in six games with Bern of the Swiss National League A and has been held off the score sheet.

D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (SEL): Notched the game-winning goal, 4 PIM and a +1 rating in three games with Lulea during the week. In eight games he has a goal and an assist and is a plus-2.


Johan Gustafsson - Lulea HF (SEL): Allowed one goal in a win to move to 3-1-0 to start the season. Ranks second among Swedish Elite League goalies in goals against average (1.25 GAA), trailing only his teammate. Ranks fifth in save percentage (.941 SV%), having stopped 79-of-84 shots.

Stephen Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Set to begin his sophomore season after being named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team during his first campaign. Harvard opens the season with an exhibition against McGill on Oct. 19.
