Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 15-16-2-2, 32 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division
The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, completed a six game road trip (2-4-0) going 1-2-0 in three consecutive games last weekend. The Wild defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 on Friday. Forwards Jake Dowell, Raphael Bussieres and Carson McMillan netted a goal each while D Steven Kampfer and RW Marc Hagel tallied an assist apiece. D Brian Connelly also recorded an assist earning his 200th AHL career point. G Johan Gustafsson stopped 41-of-43 shots in the win. Iowa dropped its second contest against the Griffins 4-1 on Saturday. D Kyle Medvec scored the team’s lone goal with assists from Dowell and F Taylor Matson and G John Curry made 30 saves. The Wild suffered a 3-1 loss against the Hamilton Bulldogs Sunday. Hagel scored his first career AHL goal and Gustafsson made 31 saves. Connelly leads the Wild with 19 points (1-18=19). F Erik Haula (9-8=17) and D Jonathon Blum (4-13=17) have 17 points each. Gustafsson is 6-6-1 with a 2.79 GAA, a .908 SV% and one shutout in 14 games. Curry is 2-2-1 with a 2.33 GAA and a .925 SV% in five games. Iowa returns home for three games facing Toronto tonight and Lake Erie on Friday and Saturday this week.
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES
D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft was loaned to Portland Jan. 7 after totaling goal and assist in 13 games with Minnesota. Expected to play this weekend for Winterhawks. Totaled an assist, a plus-4 rating in seven games as alternate captain as Canada finished fourth at 2014 World Junior Championship in Sweden.
RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied assist and four PIM in two games last week. Ranks second in assists (20) and in PIM (64) on Owen Sound, third in scoring (9-20=29) and T-4th in goals (9). Named an assistant captain (10/15).
D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two assists in three games last week. Leads Shawinigan defensemen and ranks second on the team in assists (14) and scoring (5-14=19).
D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded two PIM as Michigan dropped its weekend series at Wisconsin.
D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft did not play as Michigan State went 0-1-1 in two games at Ohio State last weekend. Missed nine games due to an abdominal injury (10/9-11/9).
C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded two shots on net in 5-2 win over Providence (1/10). Ranks sixth on the Eagles in shots on net (42).
LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft tallied three assists as Notre Dame won its weekend series versus Alabama Huntsville. Ranks T-3rd on the Irish in points (10-7=17) and T-4th in power-play scoring (5-2=7).
LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded three shots on net in Sioux Falls two games last week. Tallied an assist and two PIM in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.
D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft netted goal as Colorado College dropped its weekend series at North Dakota. Tallied five points (1-4=5) and a plus-5 rating in seven games to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Ranked T-2nd in scoring amongst defensemen in the tournament. Recorded three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).
C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied goal and assist in two games last week. Had his 38-game point streak end as Grand Rapids suffered a 5-0 loss to Duluth East (1/9). Tied career-high with four goals and set a new career high with six points (4-2=6) vs. Hopkins (1/4). Registered four goals, including two PPGs in the Thunderhawks 7-2 victory over St. Francis (12/27). Leads team in goals (19), assists (19) and scoring (19-19=38). Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded goal and two PIM in two games in Nebraska Omaha weekend loss against Minnesota Duluth. Ranks first on the Mavericks in PIM (43) this season.
D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft blocked five shots and earned a plus-3 rating in two games as Minnesota Duluth won its weekend series at Nebraska Omaha. Ranks T-7th on the team in assists (5) and third among defensemen in points (0-5=5).
C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft netted his second goal of the season as Lulea went 2-1-0 in three games last week. Leads all defensemen and ranks 6th on the team in assists (10) and T-7th in scoring (2-10=12).
Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draftwent 1-1-0 in two starts last week. Ranks T-2nd in QMJHL in wins (21) and 12th in GAA (3.22). Earned first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.
Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft played in his first game since Nov. 20...Came in relief in the second period allowing one goal on 16 shots in Harvard’s 5-1 loss to Yale (1/11).
