It’s time once again for Wild fans to decide the DQ Bakes Play of the Week based on three of the best efforts provided by Wild players from recent games. Voting ends Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
The winning vote getter for the week of Jan. 4 was Charlie Coyle's ninth goal of the season in highlight-reel fashion against Detroit. Coyle worked his way inside of Brendan Smith, with a nice move and speed, before roofing the puck past Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek.
This week’s nominees are:
PLAY #1 Dub Step (Jan. 9, 2015 at DAL)
Devan Dubnyk was in full desperation mode, and made a Domink Hasek-esque save to keep the Dallas Stars off the board. With the Stars moving the puck around the crease, Dubnyk ended up on his side. With Jyrki Jokipakka in control, Dubnyk managed to get a piece of a shot that looked like a sure-goal by extending his arm up, and deflecting the puck away with the back of his glove.
PLAY #2 Van-tastic Hands (Jan. 9, 2015 at DAL)
Thomas Vanek was in the right place at the right time and took advantage of a fortuitous bounce. After the Wild lost an offensive zone faceoff, Coyle deflected a Cody Eakin clearing attempt right into Vanek's path. On a 20-foot breakaway, Vanek faked goalie Antti Niemi into going down, before Vanek roofed the puck under the crossbar for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
PLAY #3 Grand-Sauce 2 Parise (Jan. 5, 2015 at CBJ)
Mikael Granlund and Zach Parise teamed up with the Wild and Blue Jackets playing four-on-four. After Minnesota had completed nine consecutive passes, Granlund cut in at the circles in the high slot, and floated a perfect pass onto Parise's tape. With only Anton Forsberg to beat, a quick stick handle by Parise changed the angle, and he snuck a shot under Forsberg's arm for his second goal of the game.
