Wild Players React To Stadium Series Uniform

by Evan Sporer / Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild unveiled its 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series uniforms on Tuesday. With Mikko Koivu, Zach Parise, and Ryan Suter helping to model the jerseys, here is what each player had to say at the event:

Ryan Suter

On his first impressions of the jersey…

I think it's cool. Like Mikko said, it's traditional, big numbers; it's just something different. I think it will look nice on the ice.

On if this makes the Stadium Series game feel more real…

It's something you really don't think about. We're trying to go through the season, the grind, and you don't think about playing in the outdoor game. As we get closer here, doing these types of things really make it real.

On if growing up and playing hockey it was cool to get a new jersey…

We really haven't had a chance to soak it up. We just saw it probably 10 minutes ago. I haven't really checked it out too close. But my first impression is, it's pretty cool. And yeah, when you're young, I remember my son just brought home his jersey for his team now, and he's pumped about it, just like we are.

On if the jersey paying homage to Minnesota is meaningful because he's local…

It's great. There are so many hockey fans and hockey players here in Minnesota. To kind of honor them, it's pretty important.

On if there are any jerseys through the years that have been his favorites…

I always liked the Original Six, those jerseys, just because you've seen them since you were a kid. There are not many bad jerseys in the NHL.

On if he's excited about playing outside in front of 50,000 people…

Yeah, it will be fun. Hopefully it's not too cold. I'm sure it will be a great experience. I'm sure our families are going to enjoy it, too.

On if it's fitting the game is against the Chicago Blackhawks…

They've had a lot of outdoor games, so this is just going to be another year for them. This is our first one, so it's going to be exciting, and we're really looking forward to it.

Zach Parise

On if he's beginning to feel the excitement for the game…

I think so. You see some commercials on it now, but honestly I feel like we have so much before that, that there's really not a lot of talk about it right now from the guys. But I'm sure as we get past Christmas and you get a little closer into January there will be a lot more. I just feel like there's still a lot of time before the game.

On what he thinks of the jersey…

I think they're really cool. In a good way, I think they're plain, and I think they're sharp. They've got a really good look to it; I really like it.

On what it will be like to play in his first outdoor game…

I don't really know what to expect. Ryan might have played in one in [New Jersey] I think. I'm not sure if anyone else has. And Vanek. And Pominville. They've all said how the build-up and everything is a lot of fun. As far as the game, it's going to be a little weird with the dynamic of the football field. The sounds are going to be different, but I think it's going to be an exciting time playing in front of—I don't know how many people they fit in there—50,000, or whatever it's going to be.
