Wild Charity Of The Month

by Staff Writer / Minnesota Wild

The A.C.E.S. program provides educational mentoring and tutoring to inner-city youths in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Each month, the Minnesota Wild plans to recognize a charity or non-profit organization that serves our youth, children’s medical-related causes or educational initiatives.

On Tuesday, September 19, during the Wild’s first preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Sports & Entertainment Community Giving will recognize the A.C.E.S (Athletes Comitted to Educating Students) program, a local non-profit organization that offers unique after school tutoring and mentoring with a sports focus.

As part of their featured night, the Wild has donated an event suite to the program as a reward for the children that have participated in this program. Former Wild defenseman Brad Bombardir will make a special appearance in the suite to visit with the youngsters. In addition, the group will be recognized on the main video board and through in-game public address.

The A.C.E.S. program benefits inner-city youth in grades four through eight in Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools. Partnering with Minnesota’s professional sports teams and using a sports-themed curriculum, A.C.E.S. provides learning opportunities that are both fun and interactive with the ultimate goal of improving students’ academic skills. Through long-term participation and contact with positive adult role models, A.C.E.S. strives to help students reach their academic potential, develop personally, and become responsible, contributing members of their community.

Mentors and tutors involved in the program volunteer their time one or more days each week at one of the participating schools and assist students with their homework and their A.C.E.S. curriculum assignments. Tutors and mentors are able to provide individual attention to the students through a sports-themed curriculum, allowing for a fun, engaging approach to learning.

For more information, visit the A.C.E.S. website at or contact A.C.E.S. at 612-331-3454.
