Weinhandl Assigned To Houston

by Staff Writer / Minnesota Wild

Right wing Mattias Weinhandl cleared waivers at 11:00 AM today, and he will now join the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. The move was made to allow the Wild to create space on the roster for Pavol Demitra, who was activated from injured reserve on Saturday.

Weinhandl was claimed off waivers by the Wild on March 4, 2006. He had a promising finish to the season, scoring five points in 15 games with Minnesota. He scored a goal in two of the final three games to end the season.

With new acquisitions this season, Weinhandl’s ice time dipped and after suffering a concussion early in the year, he found himself repeatedly scratched. Weinhandl skated in 12 of the Wild’s 28 games this season. In games he did play, he only averaged 6:27 of ice time.
