Vote On Last Week's Top Plays

by Mike Doyle / Minnesota Wild

Last year, wanted help from our fans in the State of Hockey and beyond to help us select the Top Play of the Year. To do so, we needed you to pick the Top Play each week, so we could pit them against each other in the offseason in a single-elimination tournament. Last year's winner was Jason Zucker's first-career goals against Detroit. We had so much fun, we're going to do it again this year.

This season, we're getting help selecting the top play each week from our friends at Dairy Queen. Last week, Zach Parise’s 239th career goal, tying his father J.P., won top billing. Parise fired home a snap shot after a faceoff win by Mikko Koivu against the Phoenix Coyotes.

This week we have three new players up for the Top Play: Koivu scores a game winner against Los Angeles; Ilya Bryzgalov with a heist against Pittsburgh; and Cody McCormick scores his first goal in a Wild sweater.

The first play up for nomination is Koivu’s game-winning one-timer against the Kings. Charlie Coyle starts the play by winning a puck battle in the corner. He walks out with the puck, while Koivu slides into an opening in the high slot. Coyle slides the puck to the captain, who hammers home a one-timer past Kings netminder Jonathan Quick. The goal capped the club’s second-straight third-period comeback win.

Up next, Bryzgalov robs Pens’ sniper James Neal. With the Wild leading, the Penguins start to pressure. Neal finds himself alone in the slot with a wide open net, until Bryzgalov’s paddle comes out of nowhere to stop the puck and any chance of a Pittsburgh comeback.

Finally, McCormick shoots for his first Top Play win with his first goal for Minnesota. Coyle carries the puck into against the Penguins and moves the puck to Parise in the corner. Parise, who attained a milestone earlier in the game with his 500th NHL point, hits McCormick in the slot. The tough forward one-times the puck home for the dagger in the Wild’s win over Pittsburgh.
