After each week during the regular season, Wild.com asked fans to pick the Top Play from each week. Now, we want to know which play is the best of the best. The only way to do this is a 32-play winner-take-all Top Play Tournament. Each of the 27 weekly winners are squaring off along with five wild card plays that received the most votes, but were not picked as Top Plays in their respective weeks.
In Round 1 there were some close calls and a few upsets. Bouchard’s Pick and Finish (11/25 vs. EDM) edged out wild card bid Harding Stonewalls Sharp (4/5 vs. CHI) by a mere three votes. In an even tighter race, Brodziak Finishes Passing Display (1/12 vs. DAL) beat out McMillan Finishes The Break (1/24 at COL) by only two votes.
Wild card nominee, Backstrom’s Game Saver (3/31 vs. LAK) topped Kassian Bags His First (3/1 at MTL), and Staubitz Benches Peckham (12/29 vs. EDM) pulled the upset over Koivu Ties It (12/14 vs. CHI).
Now in Round 2, we have narrowed the field to 16 plays and eight head-to-head matchups. Each head-to-head winner will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be announced next Monday. Get a PDF of the Round 2 bracket, here.
All you have to do is watch each video, select your favorite for each head-to-head matchup, then scroll down to the bottom of the page to submit your vote. Each Monday, we'll move on to the next round with the winner being announced on Tuesday, May 29.
