SAN JOSE COACH RON WILSON QUOTES
Wednesday, October 19, 2005 versus Minnesota
Your thoughts about the game tonight:
"We were playing well till we got to that third period. We should have had a better fate than tied one to one. We had some guys have off nights tonight, especially defensively. We didn't challenge the puck carrier like we should have. The first and second goal were clearly a result of not challenging the puck carrier. We had a ton of scoring chances in the first two periods. Fernandez (Manny) played well, but we had a lot of shots go right into him. We have to go hard to the net, we have to pay the price if we want to score."
"What happened on that second goal:
"I tried to drive the net, but as I did I had the stick knocked out of my hand. I thought we came back and played the rush ok, but not much I could do without a stick. We played forty minutes of solid hockey, and somehow lost it in the last twenty. That is not the way we play. That third period was embarrassing for us. It was the worst we have played all year."
Do you burn the tapes of this game and move on:
"We know we played poorly. We have no time to dwell on this loss. We play on the road both Friday and Saturday. I thought the first two periods we skated well, but everything fell apart in that third period. We have to correct this for Friday and Saturday, and I think we can do that."
