by Glen Andresen / Minnesota Wild

A competition that began in early August and featured judges that included Wild employees, Wild coaches, local celebrities and ultimately the fans, has finally ended two months later with one singer on top.

Sara Renner of Minneapolis emerged from 110 audition tapes and will be the Minnesota Wild's National Anthem singer for the 2007-2008 season. Renner was one of three finalists that performed the Anthem during a Wild preseason game. She sang her rendition prior to the Wild's game against St. Louis on September 26.

Fans voted for their favorite singer on from Monday morning through Tuesday evening. Renner's win was officially announced on the WCCO radio show this morning. Renner has been a professional singer for the past 15 years. Fans can visit her website at

"I want to thank all the Wild players, coaches and staff, and especially the fans for selecting me for such an honor. I am excited to lead the singing of the National Anthem at Wild games."

Renner beat out two other local singers - Lauren Redpath of White Bear Lake and Mandy Maietta of Shoreview. Both Redpath and Maietta have agreed to serve as alternates in the event of Renner being unable to sing.
