Parise Named NHL's First Star After Five-Goal Week

by Evan Sporer / Minnesota Wild

Zach Parise was named the NHL's First Star for the week of March 21.

In the Wild's three games last week, Parise had five goals and two assists, tied for the most points in the NHL over that span.

Parise scored a first-period hat trick against the Calgary Flames, and now leads the NHL with three three-goal games this season. He completed the feat over a span of 11:12, the quickest hat trick ever in Wild history. Parise also became the first Wild player to score three goals in a period. His third goal proved to be the game-winner.

He followed that up with a two-goal performance against the Colorado Avalanche, again scoring the game-deciding goal. He connected midway through the second period at even-strength to make it 1-0, and then made it 3-0 Wild when he scored on the power play early in the third period, his second power-play goal in as many games.

Parise also had a power-play assist on the Wild's game-winning goal when it opened its week with a 2-1 victory against the Los Angeles Kings.

With his scoring this week, Parise eclipsed the 20-goal plateau for the eighth time in 11 seasons in his career. He also scored his 100th career goal as a member of the Wild. He leads Minnesota in goals this season (24) and is second on the Wild in points (49).
