SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough and Head Coach Jacques Lemaire announced today that right wing Marian Gaborik will serve as team captain for the month of March. Brian Rolston and Kim Johnsson will serve as alternate captains throughout the month.
Gaborik, 26 (2/14/82), leads the Wild this season with 64 points (33-31=64) in 60 games. Gaborik is a team-best plus-11 with seven power play goals and six game winning tallies. The Trencin, Slovakia, native, is the Wild’s all-time leader in games played (468), goals (197), assists (198), points (395), power play goals (53), game winning goals (39) and plus-minus (+45). This marks the first month of captaincy for Gaborik, who was Minnesota’s first-round pick (No. 3 overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Minnesota will continue to rotate its team captaincy on a monthly basis this season based on the player who has shown the greatest leadership qualities.
Pavol Demitra (October), Rolston (November), Mark Parrish (December) and Nick Schultz (January and February) have served as Wild captains this season.
