Lil' Herb Brooks Coming Friday

by Glen Andresen / Minnesota Wild

Seriously, before YouTube came along, what did we as a society even do to pass time? What made us laugh? Jokes? If we wanted to watch a music video or listen to a song we were too cheap to purchase (like Fireflies by Owatonna's own Owl City), we had to wait for TV or radio to play it. And, we never got to see TV news anchors lose their minds, or freak out because of a cockroach scurrying near them.

Thanks to the power of Internet sharing, we are now able to watch a sly penguin slam his buddy face-first into some icy cold water, or two Chinese guys in Yao Ming jerseys lip synch "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys or a little English boy shout "Charlie bit me!" when his baby bro chomps down on his index finger.

Plus, we get to watch hockey videos non-stop, like Owen Nolan's goal against Tampa Bay last week, or Wild goalie coach Bob Mason getting smoked by Cam Neely.

Now, the star of one of the most popular hockey-related YouTube videos ever is going to be at the Wild's game against the New York Islanders on Friday night. Josh Sacco, or as he is more widely known, Lil' Herb Brooks, will be leading the Xcel Energy Center crowd in "Let's Play Hockey" prior to Friday's game.

Sacco became a YouTube sensation when he was videotaped giving the Herb Brooks pregame speech to Team USA prior to beating the Soviet Union in the movie, "Miracle." Sacco, a Nashville native, has watched the movie more than 100 times and has memorized the speech performed by Kurt Russell.

Sacco has made an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show, has been shown on ESPN’s SportsCenter, and has also been invited to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Sacco will be the youngest celebrity to ever recite “Let’s Play Hockey.”
