With two more moves on Saturday, the Minnesota Wild took another step toward finalizing the Opening Night roster, and completed its moves involving defensemen. The Wild now has eight blueliners remaining on the roster after assigning top prospect Shawn Belle to the Houston Aeros. The eight defensemen includes Clayton Stoner, who is expected to be assigned after rehabbing his injured shoulder.
Wyatt Smith was also assigned to Houston, leaving Mark Parrish as the lone Minnesotan on the current roster.
Both Belle and Smith appeared in two preseason games, and both were held pointless. Belle was a plus-two with two penalty minutes.
The Wild roster now stands at 26, but that includes Stoner and James Sheppard, who are dealing with injuries. Still hanging tough is recent Wild signee Joel Ward, who began training camp as a tryout player. Minnesota will have to reduce its roster to 22 before Thursday night’s season opener against the Colorado Avalanche.
