The Utah Mammoth selected left wing Ethan Belchetz from the Windsor Spitfires (OHL) in the first round (17th overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft. Belchetz is committed to play college hockey at Michigan State in 2026-27.
The Utah Mammoth acquired the 17th overall draft choice from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the 19th overall draft choice and the 83rd overall draft choice.
About Ethan Belchetz:
- Belchetz recorded 34-25-59 and a +19 rating in 57 OHL regular-season games in the 2025-26 season, helping Windsor to tie their third-highest win total in a single season in franchise history.
- He finished second among Spitfires in goals and fourth in points in his second OHL season.
- The 6-foot-5, 229-pound forward has totaled 51-46-97 and a +16 rating in 113 games over two OHL seasons with Windsor.
- The 18-year-old won bronze with Team Canada at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, posting 4-3-7 in five games, which tied for fifth in tournament scoring.
- Belchetz also skated in three games for Team CHL at the 2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge.
- During his rookie season, he was named to the OHL’s Second All-Rookie Team, including a four goal and six point outing, becoming the first Spitfires 16-year-old rookie to score four goals in a single game since Taylor Hall (3/6/08).
- A native of Oakville, Ont., he won gold with Team Canada White at the 2024 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, tallying 4-1-5 in five games.
- In the 2023-24 season, he was named to the OHL Cup All-Star team, OHL Cup Champion and OHL Cup MVP.
