Story of the Day

The Capitals host the New York Rangers for Game 4 of their First Round series tonight at 8 p.m. at Capital One Arena. New York leads the series 3-0, with all three wins coming in regulation. Washington went the entire regular season without losing four-straight regulation games. The Capitals are 24-23 (.511) in Game 4s all-time and 11-8 (.579) in Game 4s at home. Washington has faced an 0-3 series deficit six other times in franchise history and has won Game 4 in three of those situations to extend the series (2020 First Round at NYI; 2000 ECQF vs. PIT; 1994 ECSF vs. NYR). Alex Ovechkin has recorded 24 points (13g, 11a) in 28 elimination games, including three game-winning goals.

With an assist in Game 3, T.J. Oshie tied Mike Ridley (60) for the sixth-most playoff points in franchise history. Since joining the Capitals ahead of the 2015-16 season, Oshie (29g-31a–60p in 75 GP) ranks first on Washington in playoff game-winning goals (6), second in playoff goals and tied for third in playoff points. Oshie’s 0.80 points-per-game in the postseason is the third-highest rate in franchise history, trailing only Alex Ovechkin (0.94) and Nicklas Backstrom (0.82) (min. 50 GP). In addition, Oshie is one of three players on the Capitals’ active roster who has scored a postseason overtime goal (also Tom Wilson and Nic Dowd). In 12 elimination games with Washington, Oshie has recorded nine points (6g, 3a).
