The Dallas Stars will play their final game of the 2010-11 regular season today at Minnesota (5:00 pm CT, TXA 21, Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket
A big game got even bigger when the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-3, in regulation earlier today, finally giving the streaking Stars the help they need to get in the playoffs. A win in regulation or overtime tonight at Minnesota will give Dallas the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, eliminating the defending Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks. If tonight’s game goes to a shootout, the Stars would be eliminated (win or lose) due to tie-breakers with Chicago.
The Stars have won four-in-a-row and are looking for five. The team is 3-0-0 vs. Minnesota this season.
If Dallas wins and gets in, the team will face off against the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the playoffs, which would begin on Wednesday or Thursday in Vancouver (Games 1 and 2 would be played in British Columbia). Dallas would host games 3 and 4 of the best-of-seven series, with the first home game coming probably on Sunday or Monday of next week. Television dictates a lot of the dates and times, as well as arena conflicts, etc.
The playoff schedule is expected to be released by the NHL sometime in the 9:00 pm hour (CT) this evening. We will post the schedule ASAP on DallasStars.com, as well as on the official Dallas Stars Facebook Page
and the official Stars Twitter feed (@DallasStars)
So – root for your Stars tonight at Minnesota and let’s grab a playoff spot!
