The Stars enter the draft with six picks, one in each round but the fourth (traded as part of the Brad Richards deal). Dallas’ first round pick is the eighth overall selection, the highest the club has picked since 1996.

As always, Director of Scouting and Player Development Les Jackson and Director of Amateur Scouting Tim Bernhardt will run the draft for the Stars, working with the Dallas’ team of scouts to decide who will be selected.
“The draft is always a big weekend,” said Jackson. “All of our scouts do an incredible job year-round and work hard. All of that work comes together at the draft when we select a new group of young men as prospects for the Dallas Stars.”

But Dallas also holds the 38th overall selection in the second round, a good spot to be in for the second round.
“This is another draft that has a lot of good kids in it,” said Jackson. “We’ll get some good players to add to our organization.
“It’s an exciting time. With the salary cap and the economic climate of sports, it is even more important to draft well and grow your team from within. These kids are the future of your hockey club.”
