There have been plenty of things that have gone wrong for the Stars during their 1-8-1 slide. One of the issues has been giving up goals late in periods.
The Stars gave up a goal with 31.2 seconds left in the second period Monday that allowed the Predators to extend their lead from 2-1 to 3-1. It was the seventh time over the last ten games that the Stars have allowed a team to score in the final two minutes of a period.
“You don’t want to be giving those things up in a hockey game,” said Stars captain Jamie Benn. “They’re going to happen, that was a tough one to swallow. We only scored one anyway, so it didn’t matter.”
Benn and Seguin split up, then reunited
Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin started Monday’s game on separate lines, but eventually they were reunited as the Stars fell behind and had trouble generating offense. For a while Ray Whitney played with Benn and Seguin and then Erik Cole moved up on that line.

“It was just a great scrap. I‘ve been in a few of those and the bottom line is that that is what takes the most courage in the whole sport. Dropping the gloves and engaging like that for your teammates and that was just some scrap and the guys responded really well from that. That’s how you get a little space out there; guys are looking around over their shoulder after you have one like that.”
