Stars-Oilers Notes

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Stars forward Ryan Garbutt is on a little roll in the points department. Garbutt, who had three points (one goal, two assists) in Tuesday’s win over Edmonton, now has five points (two goals, three assists) over the last three games.

“I’ve been trying to use my speed to create chances and I’ve been fortunate to get some bounces,” Garbutt said. “I’ve been playing with some good linemates and our whole team is working hard. Anytime I can help the team out it’s a bonus.”

Stars coach Lindy Ruff said Garbutt, who has been playing on a line with Antoine Roussel and Cody Eakin, may have played his best game of the season on Tuesday, and it came after Ruff gave Garbutt some direction prior to the game.

“Obviously he’s a difference maker, he’s an energy guy for us and it was nice to see him get rewarded because that line has worked hard, he’s worked real hard,” Ruff said. “I’m pushing him for a better level of discipline inside his game and he’s getting rewarded for it. I had a conversation with him again before the game tonight about some of the plays in the previous game that I didn’t like. I said ‘I just want you to improve in a couple of those areas’ and tonight I thought might have been one of his best games.”

Quotable: Lindy Ruff on the play of Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin

“Better. Better. We need them to be difference makers. I thought their energy was better, even the beginning of the third period, getting pucks deep and getting after them. They had a couple of great looks in the second period that they could have converted on. But for the most part, a lot better for us.”
