Stars-Maple Leafs Notes

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Stars center Cody Eakin left Thursday’s game early in the third period after taking a hit to the head from Maple Leafs forward Colton Orr. Eakin did not return to the game, but Stars coach Lindy Ruff said early indications were that Eakin would be fine.

“I think he’s going to be okay,” Ruff said. “We’ll see tomorrow.”

Orr’s shoulder appeared to catch Eakin in the head. Orr was not penalized for the hit, but he was given a ten-minute misconduct during a scrum that came after the play.

“I watched the hit and I feel from the angle I saw that primary contact was to the head,” Ruff said. “I don’t think he got his elbow up but I think his shoulder went right into Eakin’s head. It’s the type of play we’re trying to remove from the game.”

Quotable: Leafs coach Randy Carlyle on what he says on the bench during a game like this

“Well, there’s a lot of things I say under my breath, but it’s not really something that you’d want to print or hear for the public to hear it. It gets past a point of mad and frustration. It just gets to a point of disappointment and what the heck is going on? Those are the things that bring you back to earth in a hurry. This is the thud.”
