DALLAS STARS ASSIGN MATHIAS TJARNQVIST TO IOWA
FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has assigned left wing Mathias Tjarnqvist to the Iowa Stars, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Tjarnqvist, 26, has appeared in 26 games for Dallas this season, tallying two goals and four assists for six points with a +8 rating. The native of Umea, Sweden, has also skated in 18 games for the Iowa Stars, posting 12 goals and six assists for 18 points to go along with 18 penalty minutes and a +3 rating.
The 6-2, 196-lb. left wing missed the Stars' first nine games of the 2005-06 season with an ankle sprain. Over 44 career NHL contests, Tjarnqvist has tallied three goals and five assists for eight points with 14 penalty minutes.
Tjarnqvist, Dallas' third round selection (No. 96 overall) in the 2000 Entry Draft, spent the 2004-05 season in his native Sweden, posting eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 46 games for HV 71 Jonkoping.
The Stars are currently 38-17-3 and sit atop the NHL's Pacific Division with 79 points. The club will next practice on Wednesday, February 22 at 2 p.m. at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco.
