DALLAS STARS ASSIGN RIGHT WING JUNIOR LESSARD TO IOWA
FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has assigned right wing Junior Lessard to the Iowa Stars, the Stars' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Lessard, 25, was recalled from Iowa on Nov. 1 and posted his first career NHL point with a goal in Dallas' 4-0 victory over Edmonton on Nov. 7. Lessard has appeared in five games with Dallas this season, recording 12 penalty minutes and six shots on goal, while averaging 7:23 minutes of ice time. He skated in six preseason games with Dallas, collecting two goals and two assists for four points with one power play goal and a +1 rating. Lessard also has appeared in six games with Iowa this season, posting two goals and two assists for four points with one game-winning goal and 12 penalty minutes.
The 5-11, 191-pound right wing played in his first professional season in 2004-05 with the Houston Aeros (AHL), recording 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 71 contests. Signed as a free agent by Dallas on Apr. 15, 2004, Lessard won the 2004 Hobey Baker Award as the nation's top collegiate player, after scoring 63 points (32-31-63) in 45 games at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He led the nation in both goals and points as a senior.
