Roussel Back in Tonight vs. Rangers

by Mark Stepneski / Dallas Stars

Forward Antoine Roussel, a healthy scratch in last night’s game against the New Jersey Devils, will be back in the lineup tonight when the Dallas Stars take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Stars coach Lindy Ruff said he sat Roussel last night because of some of the penalties the Stars forward has taken recently.

“I’ve talked to Rous twice and it really is about I want him to stay away from the type of penalties he has been taking,” Ruff said. “I really think it hurt our lineup not having his energy in. He’s done a good job on the offensive side. He’s done a good job against some top lines. I told him as much as it hurt him to be out, it hurt me to take you out because I think it hurts our team. We need the way he plays, we need the speed of his game but the penalties were getting out of hand. His focus inside the game needs to be directed on the style we need him to play.

“He understands. I really like this kid. He’s a great kid. It’s a work in progress. He’s made a great transition [to the NHL]. He’s also a marked man, which I am trying to help him with. He gets no slack. He’s got a target on his back when it comes to just marginal calls, and he has to understand that.”

Defenseman Aaron Rome, who has missed the last two games with an upper body injury, will be back in the lineup as well tonight.

“He had a couple good days of skating back in Frisco, a skate yesterday and we’ll put him back in,” Ruff said.

With Rome coming in, Kevin Connauton is the likely scratch on defense. Dustin Jeffrey likely will be the forward to sit out tonight. Kari Lehtonen, who was superb last night against New Jersey, could be back in net again tonight as the Stars try to end their four-game losing streak.
