Prospect Report: Roope Hintz returns from injury

Roope Hintz, Dallas’ second round-pick in 2015, returned to action this past week after sitting out about five months with an injury and 2013 third-round pick Niklas Hansson continued to shine in Sweden’s top league. Here’s an update on Dallas Stars prospects playing in Europe, juniors and college this season.


*LW Roope Hintz (second round/2015) has started playing after missing the first part of the season due to a back injury. Hintz, who suffered the injury during summer workouts, played his first game Thursday, registering one assist in 16:38 of playing time in a 5-2 victory for HIFK in Finland’s top league. He played 12:48 on Saturday and had no points. Hintz is expected to play for Finland at the upcoming Four Nations U-20 tournament, which will be played in Finland later this month.

*D Aleksi Makela (seventh round/2013) registered his first point of the season for Ilves in Finland’s top league, picking up an assist on the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Assat. Makela has played eight games in the top league this season.

*D Troy Vance (fifth round/2011) had no points in three games for Assat in Finland’s top league over the past week. Vance has four assists in 19 games and ranks second in the league with 25:01 of ice time per game.

*D Miro Karjalainen (fifth round/2014) did not play last week.

*G Henri Kiviaho (fifth round/2012) got one start for Leki in Finland’s second highest league, stopping 13 of 16 shots before coming out of the game five minutes into the second period. Kiviaho is 0-3-1 with a 3.71 goals-against average for Leki.

*G Markus Ruusu (sixth round/2015) did not play over the past week.

* D Niklas Hansson (third round/2013) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the shootout, as HV 71 defeated Vaxjo in the Swedish Hockey League on Saturday. Hansson is tied for second among SHL defensemen in scoring with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 16 games. He ranks tenth among all players in average ice time at 22:28 per game.

*D John Nyberg (sixth round/2014) had no points in three games for Oskarshamn in Sweden’s second highest league. Nyberg has five points (one goal, four assists) in 19 games.

*RW Denis Gurianov (first round/2015) had no points in two games for Lada Togliatti in the KHL over the past week. Gurianov has three points (two goals, one assist) in 19 games. Gurianov is on Russia’s preliminary roster for the U-20 Four Nations tournament, which will be played later this month in Finland.


*LW Brett Pollock (second round/2014) scored one goal in four games for Edmonton of the WHL over the past week. Pollock has 14 points (four goals, ten assists) in 16 games.


*G Brent Moran (fourth round/2014) got one start this past week, stopping 22 of 24 shots in Niagara’s 6-2 win over Sarnia. Moran is 3-5-0 this season with a 3.75 goals-against average.

*D Aaron Haydon (sixth round/2014) had no points in three games for Niagara. Haydon has no points in 13 games this season.

*D Alex Peters (third round/2014) did not register any points in three games for Flint. He has three points (one goal, two assists) in 14 games.

*D Chris Martenet (fourth round/2015) had no points in three games for London over the past week. Martenet has four assists in 15 games and is tied for seventh in the OHL with a plus-15 rating.

*D Patrick Sanvido (seventh round/2014) remains out with a knee injury. He is expected to miss another 3-4 weeks.


*D Michael Prapavessis (fourth round/2014) did not have any points as RPI won two games against Union over the weekend. Prapavessis has three assists in seven games.

*D Joseph Cecconi (fifth round/2015) had no points in two games as the University of Michigan split a weekend series with Robert Morris. Cecconi has one assists in six games.
