Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak isn’t the only guy making his NHL debut Friday night at American Airlines Center. So is center Antoine Roussel, who was called up from the Texas Stars on Wednesday along with Oleksiak.
“It’s exciting. The boys have been good to me so far,” Roussel said. “I am excited to get that first one out of the way.”
Roussel was on the Dallas roster until the morning of the season opener against Phoenix. Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said at the time he expected to see Roussel back, and now he is.
“I was ready for the (call), but I wasn’t expecting it,” Roussel said. “It was fun to get the call and to have that kind of opportunity. I want to try to make the most out of it.”
Roussel will center the fourth line with Brenden Morrow and Ryan Garbutt. And what is Gulutzan looking for from Roussel?
“Energy,” Gulutzan said. “I am sure he is going to have a lot of it tonight. Every game I’ve seen him play he’s had it, in training camp here he had it every day. He was in game mode this morning. I don’t know if he caught a pass, but he was flying out there. I am sure he is going to bring us some energy and he is going to have it full bore tonight.”
