The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has assigned forward Matt Fraser to the Texas Stars, Dallas' development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Fraser is scheduled to skate tonight for Texas in the club's opening game of the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs in Milwaukee.
Since being recalled by Dallas on April 2, Fraser has appeared in nine games and collected two points (1G-1A). He has recorded over 10 minutes of ice time in eight of his nine games during that span. The 6-foot-1 winger from Red Deer, Alta., has appeared in 13 career NHL games, posting three points (1G-2A) and earned his first career NHL goal against the Nashville Predators on Feb. 25.
Fraser, 22, finished this past season ranking first in the AHL in power-play goals (17), second in goals (33) and was named to the 2012-13 AHL Second All-Star Team. In 62 games with the Texas Stars this season, he notched 46 points (33G-13A) and finished ranked second on the club in overall scoring. Earlier this season, Fraser was selected to represent the Western Conference at the 2013 AHL All-Star Game. Fraser went undrafted and was signed as a free agent on Nov. 17, 2010.
The Dallas Stars play their final game of the 2012-13 season at American Airlines Center against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CT (TV: NBC Sports Network; Radio: 1310 The Ticket).
