It was all smiles as about 200 children and family members from Dallas LIFE homeless shelter picked up their new backpacks filled with school supplies Saturday afternoon. This back-to-school bash was hosted by the Dallas Stars Foundation and Pro Players Foundation, with the help of Briggs Security.
The children and families walked outside of the Dallas LIFE Center on Saturday greeted by volunteers cooking up lunch, sno-cones, and eagerly waiting to play with the children on the playground that the two Foundations had built at the facility three years earlier. After enjoying some barbeque sandwiches, guests got to try their luck at a little hockey, basketball, miniature golf and even play in the Stars bounce house.
"Quite a few of the children benefitting from the new school supplies at this event are going to school for the first time," said Jessica Dunn, Executive Director of the Dallas Stars Foundation. "For these preschoolers and kindergartners getting brand new backpacks and crayons helps make starting their new adventure at school even more exciting.”
It was a special day at Dallas LIFE, bringing together the children and families benefitting from the housing and New Life programs, Pro Players Foundation, volunteers and the Dallas Stars Foundation.
The Dallas Stars Foundation is able to provide these opportunities in the community because of the generosity of individual and corporate donors.
