The Stealth Are Back Home

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
altThe Stealth used a six-week break from home turf – and a two hour delay – to get back to .500 by defeating the Edmonton Rush on Saturday, 12-11.  Their attention now turns to the Calgary Roughnecks who invade HP Pavilion on Saturday, March 18 at 7:30pm.

The game against Calgary can’t have come at a better time as the Stealth are chasing them in the West Division standings.  The victory against Edmonton now has the Stealth (4-4) just one half game back of first place, which is now filled with Calgary, Arizona and Portland.

Winners of two in a row, the Stealth have redeveloped an offensive swagger.  They have scored 12 goals in each of the past two contests and have received solid play from Jeff Zywicki and Gary Rosyski, both of whom have posted nine points in the last two games.

The Stealth also acquired two new players prior to the Edmonton game in Luke Wiles and Chad Thompson. Both players were acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Wings and each contributed to the Stealth’s success on Friday.  Wiles posted four points and Thompson provided a defensive spark picking up three loose balls.

Wiles, selected fourth overall in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, has posted 23 points (10 goals and 13 assists) in only nine games this season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound forward had a strong summer for the Barrie Lakeshores of the Ontario Lacrosse Association. He was fourth in the league in points with 74 which was more than current NLL stars Josh Sanderson and fellow first round draft pick Dan Carey.

Thompson, selected ninth overall in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft, has posted 8 points (three goals and five assists) and collected 13 loose balls this season. Over the summer, in the Ontario Lacrosse Association, he scored 55 points (26 goals and 29 assists) in 21 games for the Orillia Kings.

The team appears to be hitting its stride at the right time.  With four teams from the Western Division making the playoffs this year, it will be a heated battle for those spots.
