On Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Logitech Ice, The Sharks Foundation hosted its annual Holiday Adoption Party. Every member of the Sharks team as well as dozens of SVS&E and Sharks staff members hosted 36 local families in spreading Holiday cheer.
Arriving for the 5 p.m. check in, the “adopted” families were given the royal treatment, which included dinner provided by Outback Steakhouse, an ice skating session with the players and other adopters, holiday-themed arts & crafts stations, festive Christmas cookie decorating and holiday movies. The evening culminated with the presentation of gifts to the families.
Adopters get a list of family members and their gift ideas and head out to shop, most Sharks players take this responsibility seriously and head out to local stores.
“It makes the evening more special,” said Sharks Captain Patrick Marleau
. “When you finally meet your family and see the rewards of your shopping experience.”
Clothing (school uniforms and warm winter clothing) are top priority and all children receive a variety of toys. All gifts are wrapped and given to the families at the end of the evening to take home and open on Christmas.
For some participants, this may be the only time they celebrate during the holiday season due to various circumstances. It also allows the entire Sharks and SVS&E organization to come together for one event as many players and staff believe this is the most significant event they do all year.
Several Sharks players indicated that this is the event that provides the most enjoyment and satisfaction out of any of The Sharks Foundation programs as it provides the most feedback, reward and sense of purpose.
